Still waiting!
It's now Saturday and I'm still waiting for the replacement steering assembly I ordered last Tuesday! Why do I always find people who make promises and promptly forget them the very next minute? They said I'd have it on Thursday!
At least my insurers have accepted my claim so there is light at the end of the tunnel. The question remains 'how long is the tunnel?'
Saturday and Sunday - still no news
My patience ran out and I cancelled my order with Lindon Lewis at Shepperton. Since he'd let me down so badly I asked for my £520 back - not unreasonable in the circumstances. But Lindon Lewis demonstrated what a scurilous bastard he is and he prevaricated first saying I couldn't cancel and then telling me there would be a handling charge. 'Handling charge for what?!' I demanded. The part I'd ordered and paid for a week ago for next day delivery had never shown up. 'Try that and I'll see you in court and your name plastered all over the yachting and local press' I promised. My money was returned the next day! What a dismal excuse for a human being!
Two days later I'd located and collected a replacement bracket and fitted it with the help of a fellow boater in Windsor. What a great guy Greg turned out to be. But we also discovered a ruptured hydraulic pipe so the next morning I drove to Reading and bought replacement pipe and more hydraulic fluid. That afternoon I fitted it and 'hey presto, it worked!' What a relief, I was mobile again! Total cost £120, a little lerss than the £1100 Lindon Lewis had quoted me. I urge any boater who reads this to avoid him like the plague!
